Future of P.M. Abe’s New Administration

Mr. Jun Iio
(Professor, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies)

Date: October 23,2006
Time: 15:00 - 16:30
Place: Foreign Press Center (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)

On September 26, a new administration formed by Shinzo Abe came into being. Following the launch of his first Cabinet, Japan’s youngest postwar Prime Minister and the first to be born since the war visited China and South Korea in an attempt to find a breakthrough on the diplomatic deadlock in Asia which is a negative legacy from the former administration. In addition to foreign affairs, Mr. Abe has a lot of work ahead of him on the home front such as issues of education, social divide and constitutional revision. What kind of “beautiful country” does Prime Minister Abe have in mind? FPC has invited Mr. Jun Iio, Professor of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), renowned expert on contemporary Japanese politics, to share his views with us on the future of the new Abe administration.
