Economic Outlook in 2005
Dr. Keiichiro Kobayashi
(Research Fellow, Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry)
Date: December 21,2004
Time: 15:00 - 16:30

The Japanese economy, which has been on a recovery track, seems to be starting to level off. Because of the deceleration of the U.S. economy, the growth slowdown of the Chinese economy and other factors, the expansion rate of exports of Japan, that had been supporting its growth, declined, which in turn put a brake on investment in plant and equipment. Although the decline in exports and capital investment seems to be continuing, personal consumption remains more or less stable. In such a situation, what will become of the Japanese economy in 2005? FPC has invited Dr. Keiichiro Kobayashi, a renowned research fellow of the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (REITI), to share his views with us.
